The Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases (NITD) is dedicated to the discovery of high-quality clinical candidates for the treatment of tropical infectious diseases. The Institute has a highly collaborative culture and has close links with academic centers of excellence and a broad range of non-governmental and philanthropic organizations around the globe: Wellcome-Trust, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Medicines for Malaria Venture and Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative. NITD is an independent Institute within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR), and is located in Emeryville, CA. The successful candidate to this position will be accountable for design, execution, and interpretation of cellular and biochemical assays to support the discovery and pharmacological characterization of novel anti-parasitic drugs against malaria parasites. Your responsibilities: • Independently interpret data from and perform routine phenotypic screening assays to support drug discovery efforts with high reliability. • Independently design, troubleshoot and implement new assays. • Execute assays efficiently through collaboration and liaising with key stakeholders. • Mentor junior research associates. • Ensure best practices in data analysis by ensuring integrity and quality of data in a timely manner. • Design and execute innovative mechanism of action studies.What you will bring to the role: • Bachelor degree or Master degree in a relevant discipline with 3+ years of experience. • Extensive experience in developing and executing cellular assays independently. • Skill in culturing primary cells, iPSC's or other cell culture systems. • Experience with assay automation or implementing high-throughput cell-based screening assays. |
