Description – Network Analyst II/III

Fairfax Water has an immediate opening for a Network Analyst II/III.  This position will be hired at either the level II or III depending on the education and experience.  This position applies specialized technical knowledge to develop and optimize Fairfax Water’s information technology portfolio to be continually responsive to business needs.  Ensures alignment of Microsoft Technologies inclusive of SharePoint, Office 365, Windows, as well as related and dependent systems such as Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, SQL Server, System Center (Configuration Manager), Azure, and their integration with other technologies.

Essential functions include:

  • Monitor network performance and integrity.
  • Maintain complete technical documentation.
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scaleability.
  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
  • Recommends changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Provide day-to-day IT operational and break-fix support for networks including Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, APs, VoIP, MPLS and broadband circuits, VPN tunnels.
  • Uphold best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network hardware, software, and peripheral devices in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Assist with evaluation, standardization, deployment, maintenance and documentation of new solutions.
  • Regular review and scheduling of firmware updates, preventative maintenance, cyclical replacements and upgrades, and security of all network devices.
  • Create, update, and maintain network diagrams for all sites.
  • Provide remote and on-site support, including weekends and after regular business hours, as needed.
  • Adhere to Change Management policies and procedures.
  • Maintain procedural and organizational documentation, including IT asset management and tracking.

Requirements:

  • Possession of an associate’s degree in computer science, or related field; and 4 years’ experience in direct user, network, enterprise application system administration, and/or telecommunications support or possession of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field, and 2 years’ experience in direct user, network, enterprise application system administration, and/or telecommunications support.
  • Must have basic to intermediate knowledge of networking features and protocols such as spanning tree, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP/VPC, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, MLS, ACI, MPLS, DMVPN, SIP, HSRP, GLBP, VSS/VSL, QoS, Multicast, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, current cloud and WAN technologies and Web filtering services.
  • Experience supporting enterprise network solutions including routing, switching, security, and enterprise wireless (including ACI, NX-OS, iOS, iOS-XE, iOS-XR)
  • Experience using and maintaining network management tools such as Sniffers (Wireshark), SolarWinds Orion, and PRTG
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure Services and experience with IPAM products

Chartered in 1957 by the Virginia State Corporation Commission as a public, non-profit water utility, Fairfax Water operates four water treatment plants with a combined capacity of 262 million gallons per day. The plants include the Corbalis Treatment Plant, operating on the dependable and free-flowing Potomac River in the northwestern area of Fairfax County, and the Griffith Treatment Plant on the impounded Occoquan River in the southeastern area. Water is distributed throughout Fairfax Water's service area through nearly 3,200 miles of water mains.

Fairfax Water produces, on average, 148 million gallons of water per day. More than 235,000 mostly residential accounts in Fairfax County comprise about 60 percent of total water sales. Approximately 40 percent of total water sales are wholesaled to Loudoun and Prince William Counties, the City of Alexandria, the Town of Herndon, Ft. Belvoir and Dulles Airport. Revenues in 2005 were $120 million.

Fairfax Water is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors composed of Fairfax County citizens who are appointed by the elected Board of Supervisors of Fairfax County. A General Manager, supported by a senior staff of engineering and business professionals, manages the day-to-day operations of Fairfax Water.
